Be part of the next 80 years of volunteering at Citizens Advice Rushmoor

Citizens Advice Rushmoor wants people to be part of the next 80 years of its history by volunteering with them.

The Citizens Advice service started almost 80 years ago on 4 September 1939 – the day after the beginning of World War II.  Citizens Advice in Aldershot has been helping local people continuously since 1940, with a lot of proud achievements.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1 June to 7 June, Citizens Advice Rushmoor wants to thank current volunteers for their contribution and welcome new recruits to help bring the charity into its next 80 years.

The over 100 volunteers at Citizens Advice Rushmoor contribute nearly 700 hours each week and last year helped over 9000 people with nearly 30,000 different problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues.

Volunteers at Citizens Advice help us in roles such as giving our clients information and advice, raising funds, keeping the service running smoothly, and helping with the strategic direction of the organisation.

Janice, who volunteers one day per week, said “This was a great opportunity to undertake work in a number of different areas of the law, at the same time as providing help for more vulnerable people in society.

“The team is very organised, and plenty of opportunities to develop skills and knowledge, with ongoing training and support.

Volunteers at Citizens Advice come from a range of backgrounds and ages to contribute their time and skills to help deliver this important service.

Among the many benefits gained from volunteering are increased skills and confidence, while meeting new people as part of a supportive, and making a positive difference to people’s lives.

Alex Hughes, Chief Officer at Citizens Advice Rushmoor, said “Our volunteers contribute their time and energy to make a huge difference to people’s lives and help keep our vital service running. If you’d like to help people in your community, and can spare a few hours a week, we’d love to hear from you.”
