Hate Crime Survey Results
This report is the result of extensive research and interviews within the local community in Rushmoor. Included in the recommendations and observations are the following:
- People feel most at risk of experiencing a hate crime in the street, public transport/public areas.
- More partnership work would help to reach and work with targeted groups unrepresented in the survey. Using social media to reach more people and organisations in Rushmoor would also help widen the awareness.
- Increased work with schools and younger people will improve awareness and prevention of hate crime at an earlier stage.
- Further work to raise awareness about reporting methods (for example using bus stickers and other public places) is needed – with easier and quicker ways to report hate crimes and incidents – eg QR reporting code in public places (public transport, streets, shopping centres, restaurants,).
The main reasons why people didn’t choose to report the hate crime/incident experienced were:
- They didn’t think anything would be done if the report was made
- They didn’t think it was serious enough to report
- They didn’t trust the police
Further work in partnership with the police will help build trust, awareness and understanding.
