Citizens Advice Rushmoor celebrates Volunteers Week
Citizens Advice Rushmoor is calling for volunteers, as well as donations to support their training and recruitment. As the cost-of-living crisis bites, Citizens Advice Rushmoor has seen a 58% increase in enquiries from local people struggling to stay on top of household bills.
Thanks to the tireless dedication of its volunteers and staff, Citizens Advice Rushmoor has continued to give essential advice and crisis support to help people find a way forward, needed now more than ever.
Volunteers are at the heart of the service, but come a cost – on average, in Hampshire, it costs £970 a year to recruit and train a volunteer adviser. In contrast, in 2021/22 the total value that Citizens Advice volunteers brought to Hampshire and the IOW was £4.8 million. As part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1 to 7 June 2022, Citizens Advice Rushmoor is calling for local businesses and individuals to sponsor a volunteer by donating as much as they can. In the last year, Citizens Advice Rushmoor helped over 10,000 people with more than 15,000 different problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues.
Andrew, an adviser at Citizens Advice Rushmoor, has volunteered for over ten years. He said “just about every day I can come home feeling I have helped somebody and made their life a little bit better”.
Sue, another volunteer said “Volunteering means I can help the community that I’m part of – there is a brilliant amount of support; and it’s very rewarding – helping people get back on track with their lives”.

“We have an incredible team of volunteers who freely give their time and skills to ensure people in Rushmoor can get support in their time of need.
“I’m particularly proud of the immense dedication they’ve shown during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, when demand for our help is so high.
“As a charity, we need donations to recruit and train more volunteer advisers to help us to help more people in our local community. Please consider donating what you can to sponsor a volunteer.’
