Moving Out, Moving On…

There is a mix of excitement and nervousness among the team at Citizens Advice in Farnborough as the big day approaches for their move into the Civic Offices at Rushmoor Borough Council.

The past few months have been taken up with planning and preparation, with everything from the overall design, down to the detail of security passes and parking.  Now that the offices are taking shape, it is clear that there will be big improvements in facilities for those using the service, as well as for the team of staff and volunteers.

“Although we are sad to say goodbye to the old building, which has housed us for over 40 years, we are very excited about the opportunities the new facilities will give us” said Alex Hughes, Chief Officer.

“The project team at Rushmoor, who have been assisting us with the move, have been fantastic in providing positive support to meet our needs, as well as practical help wherever it has arisen,” added Alex.

The ground floor accommodation will include public access computers, supporting a specific “Help to Claim” service delivered by Citizens Advice, to assist people with claiming Universal Credit correctly.

Close to public transport, and easily visible from the main road, the new offices will be more accessible for clients, and people can combine getting help from Citizens Advice with their visits to Rushmoor Borough Council.  A purpose-designed new reception desk will be clearly visible in the public area, to help with quick queries, with confidential interview rooms close by.

“We’re closing the old offices from 18th March, and we are letting everyone we can think of know,” said Alex.

The new office will be fully open on Monday 1st April 2019, with a skeleton service being trialled the week of 25th March.  Opening hours will stay the same.

“We are keeping our website ( www.citizensadvicerushmoor.org.uk ) and twitter account updated so everyone can check what is happening there.  The really important thing for everyone to know is that we’ll still offer free, confidential advice to our clients and maintain an independent service.  These principles are at the heart of our service, and we are committed to making sure that works” confirmed Alex.

The change follows on the closure of Farnborough Community Centre in January 2019, and the preparation for the redevelopment of Civic Quarter.

Citizens Advice Rushmoor welcomes volunteers, and is currently recruiting to a number of roles.  For more information email [email protected] or call 01252 894296
