Citizens Advice Rushmoor celebrates commitment to real Living Wage

Citizens Advice Rushmoor has today accredited as a Living Wage Employer at the start of ‘Living Wage Week’, organised by the Living Wage Foundation.

That commitment will ensure the charity’s staff will earn the real Living Wage, a minimum hourly wage of at least £12.60, significantly higher than the government minimum for over 21s which currently stands at £11.44 per hour. The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum.

Calum Stewart, Chief Officer at Citizens Advice Rushmoor said: “Every day our staff support dozens of clients at the sharp end of the cost of living crisis, however they themselves are not immune from these challenges. That’s why I’m delighted that Citizens Advice Rushmoor has become an accredited Living Wage Employer.

“Although all our staff salaries already exceed the real Living Wage, our commitment means that every employee will now always earn a real Living Wage. This is an important part of the vision to make Citizens Advice Rushmoor a great, safe and inclusive place to work.”

Across the South East, 15% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage – around 572,000 jobs. Despite this, Citizens Advice Rushmoor has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 200,000 people and put over £1 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Citizens Advice Rushmoor has joined the movement of over 15,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. These organisations recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
